Timber Point

Timber Point – Newfound Lake

Coming soon.

This hybrid timber frame home replaced a 1940s outgrown, yet beloved, camp by our clients. The home takes advantage of gorgeous sunsets and broad views of Newfound Lake. One of the most important design features is the transition spaces from the interior of the home to the exterior. Large porches with a stone fireplace, sitting, and dining areas anchor the home’s exterior and protect from the elements without the need to retreat indoors. The exterior composition is defined by a series of intersecting gabled volumes, their varied rooflines establishing a dynamic and breaking down the overall mass of the home.

The exterior siding cladding is a recycled rice hull product painted in a custom color that provides years of low maintenance, while the window and roof trim are Douglas fir stained to match the timbers. The exterior color tones were chosen to complement the home’s natural environment. The windows and doors were designed specifically for their beauty but, most importantly, for their performance due to the home’s exposure to New Hampshire’s fierce winter winds.

The site strategy emphasizes seamless integration with the topography. Carefully composed stone retaining walls and informal boulder groupings stabilize the grade while echoing the geological character of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. A series of stone steps establishes a natural approach to and from the protected shoreline.

The interior took all its cues from the timber frame and the multiple types of wood throughout the home. The warm, natural tones are enhanced by the many vintage features throughout the home. One of the most popular rooms with the younger crowd is the bunkroom with its ski theme. One feature that is not commonly seen in lakefront homes is the lack of a cathedral space on the main level. Our clients chose more living space on the second floor instead of a soaring ceiling, in turn creating a cozy, camp feel.

This project was a true collaboration between the homeowners, architects, timber frame company, interior designers, and us! Overall, the goal was achieved of creating a home that was not overwhelming to its occupants yet provided enough space for the client’s family and friends!
