Cozy & Comfortable Camp! This 1550 square footage custom timber home replaced a vintage 1950s camp. The new camp has a wonderful open great room with a timber cathedral ceiling, two bedrooms, office, huge loft for guests, one full bath, laundry, mudroom with half bath and a great screen porch. In the great room the outdoors will be brought indoors with a 12′ double sliding door. The exterior of the house will be a combination of Western Red Cedar shingles and bevel sidings. Other selections include ZIP System exterior sheathing, Andersen 400 Series windows and doors, 30 year architectural shingles, red oak flooring and Kraftmaid cabinetry. The combination of exposed heavy timber rafters and pre-built trusses help keep the budget in check for the homeowner. This small home lives large! So keep watching for more updates…

THE BIGGEST LOG HOME WE HAVE EVER BUILT!

This 7,000 square feet King Forest Log Home of Plymouth, NH was designed by the homeowner with the help of Misiaszek & Turpin, PLLC Architects of Laconia, NH. This home boosts a 40′x40′ great room, four bedrooms each with their own bath, indoor pool, laboratory, workshop, elevator and vintage car storage. The home will be heated by radiant floor heat with the heat source being a bulk wood pellet boiler system. The roofing consists of metal shingles. The client utilized Superior Wall pre-cast walls for the ground level walls.

This home will contain some great interior trims so stay tuned for more pictures as this super house is completed!

This project is Phase I of II! This conventionally framed garage/shop with a full one bedroom apartment with office sets the stage for more to come. The overall dimensions of the structure is 29′x46′. The first floor level is comprised of a 24′x25′ two car garage, a 22′x29′ shop area and utility space. The second floor has a 24′x29′ open great room, a full bath, laundry room, one 12′x22′ bedroom, storage room and a 10′x15′ office. The building was designed to easily attach the full house at a later date. The exterior is covered with pre-stained white cedar shingles and trimmed with white Kleer composite trim for a no maintenance finish. The garage and apartment are heated by in-floor radiant tubing with a direct-vent energy efficient propane boiler. The interior will be finished with Ipe wood flooring, cherry cabinetry, and pre-finished edge & center bead pine on the ceilings. The client refers to their new building as the ‘Garage Mahal’. It sure is!

Hayward & Company donates $500 to the Minot-Sleeper Library Building Fund

The Hayward kids donated $500 to one of their favorite places – The Minot-Sleeper Library in Bristol, NH! The library is working on a capital fundraising effort to reach 200K for a new addition to the 127 year old building. The building has remained relatively unchanged since 1885 so we think it is time for a change. The Gothic architecture of the building is awesome and worth a visit if you are in the area. This library is part of a great downtown area in Bristol and it provides internet access, the newest novels and great kids programs at no charge. Hayward & Company finishes a new fireplace set for the 2011 Children’s Auction

HERE IT IS!

We have been hard a work with not only our client projects but also in our shop building the final piece to the new Children’s Auction set. We felt like Santa’s helpers working late at night to get it done! This piece was built in conjunction with a big effort by the Lakes Region Builders and Remodelers Association (LRBRA) to build a new set of the auction in honor of their 30th anniversary.

The Children’s Auction supports over 20 children related organizations in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire each year. Last year the auction donated over $260,000.00 to these organizations. Every single dime goes back to the kids. This is why we love this event and support it every year. Mike especially with his bidding tendencies!

What can we learn from this wasp nest?

We have been watching this nest all summer and much what these wasps have done we do too! These wasps have worked together for a common purpose – work together as a group to build a structure that protects them and their young. Hmmm….sounds familiar! As we studied the nest we can see that is created from paper – which the wasp make from wood fiber. But what is really interesting is the design. This nest was created on a tree branch along side our road so it had very little protection but it shape sheds water. It also has vents in the top of the nest to allow the drying process to occur. Hmmm…sheds water and provides ventilation?

It it ‘magical’ that the science of building can been viewed right in nature. We are not saying that our homes are like a wasp nest but what is does say is that teamwork and proper design and construction methods make it all work!

This ‘magic’ of a home of your own will be on display for all to tour during the New Hampshire Parade of Homes this Columbus Day Weekend. We hope you can make the time to view our very special entry – a 2,600 square foot custom timber frame home.

The one thing we learned about real estate…there is nothing more satisfying then a home of your own.

Old can be new again! The owners of this existing log home wanted to create a more energy efficient house by removing the drive-under garage. During this remodel the drive-under garage was eliminated and a breezeway with a full two bay garage was created. This configuration will not allow cold air into the home when the garage doors are opened during the winter months.

The existing log home has a live-edge profile so to duplicate it on the garage/breezeway would have been costly so the clients opted for the live-edge Adirondack siding. The home was washed, cleaned and had new stain applied. In addition, we replaced many of the old single-pane windows in the house with efficient double-paned windows. With all the improvements, the clients will see energy savings during future heating seasons.
